Online Events FAQ
HOW CAN I FIND OUT ABOUT FORTHCOMING EVENTS?
Forthcoming events will be listed on Karie’s website under Workshops. To stay up to date with events, you can follow Karie on Instagram, Twitter or sign up for her Patreon (where events are announced first).
DO I NEED TO REGISTER?
Events are ticketed and sold on a “first come, first served” basis. We cannot guarantee that you will be able to buy tickets on the day. Tickets are limited in number.
THE EVENT IS FULLY BOOKED, HOW CAN I GET A PLACE?
An online waiting list will open. In order to join the waiting list, please follow the instructions on the individual event webpage. If a place becomes available, tickets will be allocated to those on the waiting list in the order that people joined, with notification sent by email.
HOW MUCH DO TICKETS COST?
Please refer to the individual event webpage.
WHICH MATERIALS DO I NEED?
If you are attending an online workshop, Karie will email me you with a materials list.
If you are attending an online webinar, you do not need any materials.
I HAVE SIGNED UP, WHAT NEXT?
An email will be sent to confirm your registration, along with the option to add the event to your calendar. Your Zoom Webinar link will be provided in this email.
Please check your spam/junk folders to make sure you have received this email. Make sure you know which email address you have used to sign up.
If you still cannot find a registration email, check your financial records to make sure the registration went through.
On the day of your event you will receive a reminder email containing a link to the event.
HOW DO I JOIN THE ONLINE EVENT?
To join the event, click the Zoom link in your confirmation or reminder email. You will be asked to enter your email address and name upon entering the event. You can choose to enter your name as “Anonymous” or use a pseudonym. Other attendees and speakers will be able to see your name, and Karie might refer to your name during the Q&A session.
During workshops, we ask that you keep your video on if possible. Karie may or may not mute microphones during the workshop.
During webinars, only speakers’ videos will be on; attendees will not be visible.
DO I NEED A ZOOM ACCOUNT TO JOIN?
Yes, you do need a Zoom account. We advise you to create a free Zoom account (if you do not already have one) at least one hour before the event starts. You may also want to download the desktop or mobile app from your app store ahead of the event. To download Zoom for a laptop or PC, you will need to visit the Zoom website: a “sign-up” button to create an account will be on the homepage. We recommend spending at least twenty minutes to install and set up an account for the first time. We also recommend spending a few minutes getting used to using the app.
WHAT TIME SHOULD I JOIN?
Events will open a couple of minutes before the advertised start time. If you click the event link before this time, you will be held in a queue and admitted when the event starts.
DO YOU LET IN LATE-COMERS?
In order to minimise disruption to events, we ask that you log in a few minutes before the advertised start time. Many events are full and we do encourage people to turn up in good time in order to get the full benefit.
CAN I ASK QUESTIONS DURING THE EVENT?
Yes! Workshops are collaborative and questions are encouraged. During webinars, please ask questions using either the chat or the Q&A function at the bottom of the screen.
I AM HAVING CONNECTIVITY ISSUES, WHAT DO I DO?
If your video or sound is patchy or breaks up, close any other programmes or apps using the internet on your PC, mobile, or tablet. Try turning WiFi off on other devices (such as your phone or other computers/tablets). If possible, move closer to the WiFi router.
If you have trouble connecting to Zoom, try closing Zoom and rejoining using the link in your confirmation email, or restarting your device. Make sure the Zoom app on your device is up-to-date. Also check that you are not currently signed into any other Zoom events or meetings.
For further help with technical issues, please use the Zoom Help Centre.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
If Karie or a speaker falls ill, the event will be cancelled and all tickets refunded via the booking website.
Attendees can receive refunds up to 1 day before the event start date. Pease request refunds via the booking website.
Any refunded ticket will be allocated to the first person on the waiting list and cannot be reinstated after refund.
ARE THE WEBINARS RECORDED?
We are currently working on making recorded webinars available to ticket holders.
Workshops are live events only and are not recorded.
DO YOU PROVIDE TRANSCRIPTS OF YOUR EVENTS
Transcripts for public events are not available. Occasionally Karie will write up an article or essay based upon an event. This will typically be posted on Patreon and may later form the basis of a blog post.
